Sta. Fe Tragedy: Woman found dead with multiple gunshot wounds
Authorities are investigating the Sta. Fe tragedy after a woman’s lifeless body was found in Leyte on Wednesday evening, April 16, 2025. Efforts are ongoing to identify the victim and determine what led to her tragic death.
What Happened in Sta. Fe Leyte?
At around 9:40 p.m., a barangay official discovered the woman lying face down in a grassy area in Sitio Can-anao, Barangay San Miguelay, Sta. Fe Leyte. The official quickly contacted the Sta. Fe Municipal Police Station for help.
Police rushed to the scene and confirmed the woman was already dead. They noted disturbing signs of violence. The woman had scotch tape covering her mouth and multiple gunshot wounds on different parts of her body.
Officers recovered several items near the body. These included a live 9mm caliber bullet, a toy lighter, and a purse filled with coins. Strangely, no identification documents were found with the victim.
The woman wore a blue mini skirt and a black sleeveless top. Her identity remains unknown as of now.
Authorities transported the body to the Sta. Fe Municipal Health Office for a post-mortem examination. Police hope the autopsy results will offer more details about how and when she died.
Leyte Top Cop Leads Investigation Into Sta. Fe Case
PCOL Dionisio DC Apas Jr., Provincial Director, along with PLTCOL Jimmy Boy C. Balasanos, Chief of the Provincial Investigation and Detective Management Unit, arrived at Municipal Police Station to personally lead the Sta. Fe tragedy case.
Apas directed investigators to gather crucial evidence in hopes of identifying the suspect or suspects and determining the motive behind the incident. They are conducting interviews with residents and also checking for CCTV footage around the area that may provide leads.
No suspects have been identified so far, and police haven’t released a potential motive. They are, however, asking the public to come forward with any information that might be useful. Even small facts could break the case.

The Sta. Fe tragedy has left the once peaceful town in shock and searching for answers. Citizens reacted with disbelief over the brutal manner of the death incident. People have flooded social media with calls for justice and improved security within the town.
