‘A Minecraft Movie’ crushes it with $80.6 million weekend gross

“A Minecraft Movie” continues its box office dominance, earning $80.6 million domestically in its second weekend, bringing its global total to over $550 million.
The live-action adaptation of the popular video game, directed by Jared Hess and starring Jason Momoa and Jack Black, has become the highest-grossing Hollywood release in 2025. Despite mixed reviews—it holds a 46% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a B+ CinemaScore—the film has maintained strong audience interest.
The movie has performed impressively internationally, with top markets including the U.K. ($39.8 million), China ($20.3 million), and Germany ($18.9 million).
However, the film’s popularity has led to some disruptions in theaters. A viral TikTok trend involving a scene with a “chicken jockey” has prompted rowdy behavior among some moviegoers, leading to disturbances in cinemas and prompting some theaters to issue warnings.
Despite these challenges, “A Minecraft Movie” has revitalized the box office, bringing ticket sales to parity with 2024 levels.
