Heat index alert: ‘Danger level’ for 26 Areas on April 22
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) announced on Monday that 26 areas across the country are expected to experience a “danger level” heat index on Tuesday, April 22.
Heat Index Alert: Bulacan, Pangasinan, and Cagayan Among the Hottest
According to the forecast, the synoptic station in San Ildefonso, Bulacan, will record the highest heat index at 46°C. Dagupan City in Pangasinan is forecast to reach 45°C, while Tuguegarao City in Cagayan may hit 44°C. Several other locations—including Aparri, Cagayan; ISU Echague, Isabela; Baler (Radar), Aurora; Cubi Pt., Subic Bay, Olongapo City; and Puerto Princesa City, Palawan—are expected to log a 43°C heat index.
Other Areas at Risk of Heat Stress
A 42°C heat index is also forecast in various parts of the country, including Laoag City, Ilocos Norte; Bacnotan, La Union; Calayan, Cagayan; Casiguran, Aurora; Coron, Palawan; and Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Sur. PAGASA classifies heat indices from 42°C to 51°C under the “danger” category, which poses a high risk for heat-related illnesses such as heat stroke.
Health Department Issues Safety Advisory
In light of this, the Department of Health (DOH) urged individuals who are exposed to the sun for extended periods to hydrate adequately, recommending up to 10 glasses of water daily to help prevent heat-related health risks.
