Michelle Trachtenberg’s cause of death revealed
Michelle Trachtenberg’s cause of death has been officially confirmed nearly two months after her passing. The New York City Office of the Chief Medical Examiner announced that the actress died of natural causes due to complications from diabetes mellitus.
Michelle Trachtenberg’s Death Linked to Liver Transplant
Trachtenberg, famous for her roles in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Gossip Girl, was found unconscious and unresponsive in her New York City apartment on February 26 by her mother, Lana. Emergency medical workers pronounced her dead at the scene, and authorities stated that foul play was not suspected.
Initially, the medical examiner’s office ruled her cause of death as “undetermined” because her family declined an autopsy for religious reasons. However, toxicology testing—conducted without an autopsy—later provided enough information to amend the official cause of death.
Reports from media outlets, including NBC News, indicated that Trachtenberg had undergone a liver transplant prior to her death, though details surrounding the procedure remain unclear.
Diabetes mellitus, or diabetes, impairs the body’s ability to regulate blood sugar. According to Johns Hopkins Medicine, diabetes occurs when the body either does not respond to insulin or fails to produce it, leading to dangerously high blood sugar levels. St. Luke’s Medical Center has identified diabetes as a leading cause of death in the Philippines, with 7.2% of the population diagnosed with the condition in 2019 and an additional 14.2% classified as prediabetic.
Trachtenberg, known for her early roles in Harriet the Spy, Ice Princess, and EuroTrip, achieved stardom as a young actress. Her sudden death has prompted widespread tributes from fans and colleagues, honoring her impact on film and television.
